The Subcommittee has jurisdiction over digital rights, copyright and patent protections, piracy, secure networks, peer-to-peer networks, fair use standards, litigation management, cyber-security, state sovereign immunity, patent and trademark office reform, e-commerce, the administration of U.S. Courts, Federal Rules of Evidence, Civil and Appellate Procedure, judicial ethics and Article III federal judgeships. He also sits on the Immigration Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee.
In addition, Congressman Smith serves on the House Science Committee and its Space and Research Subcommittees.
Smith is also a member of the Committee on Homeland Security. The Committee has primary jurisdiction over the Department of Homeland Security and government-wide homeland security policy. Justice Johnson was appointed to the Court on March 15, 2005, by Gov. Rick Perry. He was serving as chief justice of the Seventh Court of Appeals in Amarillo at the time of his appointment.
He was elected to the Seventh Court of Appeals in 1998 and was elected chief justice in 2002. He practiced law from 1975 until 1998 with the Lubbock law firm of Crenshaw, Dupree & Milam, L.L.P.
Justice Johnson attended Texas Tech University School of Law, where he was a member of the law review and graduated with honors in 1975. He has served on numerous committees of the State Bar, is a member of the College of the State Bar, is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and the American Bar Foundation, and has served as president of the Lubbock County Bar Association. He is board certified in civil trial law and personal injury trial law.
His term ends in 2008. Justice Johnson, appointed to a vacancy left when Justice Michael H. Schneider was appointed to the U.S. District Court in Tyler, must run in 2006 for election to fill the remaining two years of Justice Schneider's term.

CDCST would like to announce that it has just signed a new deal, through its Keystone Exchange division, with BREO Business Real Estate Ownership, an alliance of leading Central Texas business real estate developers.
BREO's long-term objective is to increase awareness of the benefits of commercial condo ownership, promote the wide variety of quality properties in the region, and work with businesses to demonstrate how they can turn their largest operating expense into an asset.
BREO's website provides up-to-date listings of what's available in the region and serves as Greater Austin's central source for the latest information on business condo trends.
According to a recent Grubb & Ellis/PNC Real Estate Finance report,
